Promised Land State Park was once the hunting grounds of the Lenape Indian tribe. The approximately 3,000-acre (1,214 ha) park is mostly surrounded by Delaware State Forest. It is in the Poconos and sits at 1,800 feet (549 m). The second growth forests in Promised Land State Park are made up of beech, maple, oak and hemlock trees. There are two lakes within the boundaries of the park. Promised Land State Park is 10 miles (16 km) north of Canadensis on Pennsylvania Route 390.
"The bike ride around the upper lake is rolling hills, which should be enjoyable for most riders, with lots of scenic stops along the way to take in the views and explore. The lower lake ride is hillier, and has a challenging hill when returning, but this ride leads to the Falls trail which is scenic, easily accessible, and has an option to do a longer or shorter hike. There are boat rentals available as well as camping. This is a 3000+ acre park, and the first stop should be to the office to get a map"

9) No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum-You will definitely appreciate the sacrifices of coal miners after taking this tour. I can't imagine working in those conditions 6 days a week. It was really interesting. My 11 and 13 year old thought it was a neat place too. If you think your small child might get bored and restless, don't take them. There is a definite echo and a kid's whining and crying during the tour made it very hard to hear the tour guide. Address: 9 Dock St, Lansford, PA 18232-1202
